Weight loss is a complicated matter. The solution—to eat less and exercise more—is simple, but putting it into practice is much harder. To be successful requires a shift in your thinking, feelings and reactions to food. Self-hypnosis for weight loss can teach you to do that.
Losing weight requires self-discipline, the ability to control your hunger and the strength to fight your cravings. It’s hard to do this on your own, so why not get help from hypnosis? If you’re trying to lose weight, a weight loss hypnotherapy app can help give you the self-control and confidence you need.
How Weight Loss Hypnosis Works
Hypnosis is a natural fit with any type of lifestyle or behavior change. People have successfully used it to help them quit smoking, stop biting their nails, reduce their alcohol use, avoid procrastination and manage stress.
How can a weight loss hypnotherapy app help you make these changes? It does this by allowing you to relax, focus and open your mind to new ways of thinking.
- Weight loss hypnosis trains you to change the underlying thoughts that lead to your unwanted behavior. For instance, if a negative view of yourself underlies your desire to eat unhealthy food, you can change that underlying thought to one that says, “I deserve to look and feel my best.”
- Hypnotherapy helps you slow down your tendency toward instant gratification. You have time to see what you’re doing, stop it and replace it with a healthier choice.
- Self-hypnosis for weight loss teaches you to be mindful. When you feel a craving for junk food, you can use mindfulness to remind yourself, “eating junk food is how I soothed myself, but now as I refocus, I can soothe myself by doing something that gets me to my goal.”
You Can Learn To Use Self-Hypnosis for Weight Loss
Using a weight loss hypnosis app can teach you the skills you need to face down your fears of weight loss. Research backs up the use of hypnosis for weight loss.
In one study, 45 obese people received training in weight loss techniques. Half the group also received a hypnosis intervention that focused on food aversion. At a three-month follow-up, the participants who got hypnotherapy lost significantly more weight than those who didn’t.
Hypnosis for Weight Loss Has Lasting Benefits
Other studies confirm that hypnosis can teach you to manage weight long-term. A group of 109 people aged 17 to 67 took part in a nine-week weight loss program. Both groups received cognitive-behavioral therapy, and one group also received hypnosis.
At the end of the nine weeks, both groups had lost significant amounts of weight. Weight loss hypnotherapy, however, was the long-term winner. At both the eight-month and two-year follow-ups, the people who received hypnosis were still losing significant amounts of weight. The people in the other group showed little change. The hypnosis group also had higher numbers of people who said they reached and maintained their goal weight.
Research Shows Self-Hypnosis Works
Self-hypnosis can be just as effective. In one study, overweight participants in two groups received individualized meal and exercise plans. One group also received training in self-hypnosis techniques. The training comprised just three self-hypnosis training sessions. At the end of the program, both groups lost weight, but the self-hypnosis group lost more weight. Participants who regularly used self-hypnosis said they ate fewer calories and felt more satisfied with the food they ate. They also reported higher quality of life scores.
